UP: Food delivery agent kills man with brick to steal phone, held

GHAZIABAD: An executive at a food delivery company was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing a man in order to steal his mobile phone earlier this week.Prashant Prajapati (26), a resident of Noor Nagar in Sihani Gate, was arrested on the basis of police surveillance and CCTV footage. We have recovered a brick used in committing the murder, the deceaseds mobile phone, and a Splendor bike from his possession, said Ravi Kumar Singh, the ACP of Nandgram police station.Police learned about the alleged murder on October 10 after a passerby spotted the body in some bushes on an empty plot. He was later identified as Suraj Kannaujiya, a native of Hardoi. Kannaujiya had been living in Ghaziabads Azad golden Tyagi Chowraha with his elder brother and sister-in-law for the past 12 years and worked as a presser in Raj Nagar Extension.After contacting his family, his brother told police that Kannaujiya had been missing since 10pm on October 8, added Singh.Subsequently, police teams were formed, and Prajapati was nabbed.During questioning, Prajapati revealed that on the night of the murder, he came across Suraj in an intoxicated state. He had a mobile phone, and the accused hatched a plan to steal it, stated the ACP.On the pretext of dropping him home, Prajapati took the victim to a forest behind Sihani Gate.There, he tried to steal the victims mobile phone, but when the latter resisted, he first choked him and then smashed his face multiple times with a brick so that he could not be identified.
