GHAZIABAD: An employee of a private deaddiction centre in Khoda was sentenced to seven years in jail by a Pocso court for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy in the centre five years ago.The centre manager got three years in prison for thrashing the boy, who is now around 22.The boy, who was suffering from mental health problems, was admitted to the centre on June 16, 2018.When his mother visited him, she found injury marks on his body. The boy then told her about his ordeal. The centre ran under the aegis of the New Tapasya Foundation. Harish Kumar, the special public prosecutor, said, "Ravi (now 40) managed the centre, and Braj Mohan (now 35) was an employee.""The duo thrashed my son with iron rods, and Braj Mohan sodomised him. We had to admit him to a private hospital," the mother said.Police arrested the two. They denied the allegations and decided to face trial. In court, the survivor said Braj Mohan had picked him up from his residence and taken him to the deaddiction centre in a car. "He promised he would cure me in 40 days. I believed him. At the centre, he put me in an isolated room and sodomised me," he said. The survivor did not accuse Ravi of sodomy.Dr Rajat Goswami said in his medical report, "The teenager had multiple injury marks on hands, legs, chest and back." A test did not confirm sexual assault, but the doctor also did not rule it out.On Wednesday, the court of Harshvardhan, special judge (Pocso), relied on the testimonies of the survivor, his parents, the doctor, and four police personnel and convicted the duo. "Braj Mohan is sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 under Pocso Act Section 4 (sexual assault). Ravi is sentenced to three years under IPC Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and fined Rs 1,000," it said.
