Dasna Jail inmates bake breads for ill and infirm

Dadhiram Maurya jail superintendent said that the idea was mooted by the district magistrate Ministhy S about a month ago. GHAZIABAD: There is a group of convicted and under-trial inmates in Dasna jail who have been entrusted with the job of baking bread. "the feedback which we are getting from outside that the quality of our breads are good and now we feel all the more encouraged to supply our breads to other government establishments" added Maurya. "Theses inmates get to work early and hit jail's bakery at seven in the morning. These breads find way into government hospitals which is served to patients as breakfast.

GHAZIABAD: There is a group of convicted and under-trial inmates in Dasna jail who have been entrusted with the job of baking bread. The inmates, seven in number who have taken charge of the bakery inside jail premises says that it gives them immense satisfaction and helps them tide over the guilt for the crime they committed outside."It have been a month since we took up the job of baking breads close to jail kitchen and all this time it gives us an immense sense of satisfaction that these breads are served to patients in MMG hospital " says Neeraj Kumar who is serving life term in a murder case and is lodged for the last three years. "We work in the bakery twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays and bake close to 2000 breads, a good portion is dispatched outside while remaining are consumed by inmates who relish it" added Neeraj.Another inmate Yusuf who is lodged in the jail for two years now on charges of committing robbery says "ever since we got involved with this other inmates treat us with respect which was missing all these years, it feels good and gives us a sense of usefulness for the society where I committed crimes ." "I had no experience but readily agreed when proposal came my way and after faltering initially now I have become an expert hand at baking breads" added Yusuf.Ashu an under trail said "after getting out I intend to work in a bakery given the experience I have gained in baking breads."Theses inmates get to work early and hit jail's bakery at seven in the morning. "We work till 3pm which involves lighting the oven, kneading and work twice a week while rest of the days are involved with packaging part" said Neeraj. "She toyed with the idea of engaging inmates for making breads which could be supplied to government hospitals in the city and it instantly caught our fancy and in record time we set up a bakery which is doing fine" says Dadhiram Maurya jail superintendent. "the feedback which we are getting from outside that the quality of our breads are good and now we feel all the more encouraged to supply our breads to other government establishments" added Maurya.
