Ahead of civic polls, Sec 144 imposed in Sakhali

All firearms will be returned to the licence holders five days after completion of counting of votes.The DM said outsiders are also prohibited from carrying their licenced weapons within the territorial jurisdiction of Bicholim taluka with immediate effect. Panaji: In view of elections to the Sakhali Municipal Council (SMC) on May 6, the North Goa district magistrate has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in the area.With this, arms licence holders in Bicholim taluka have been prohibited from carrying any type of arms such as firearms, ammunition or lethal weapons in any public place, street, thoroughfares, bylanes or any open place with immediate effect till the election process gets over.The district magistrate has also directed all arms licence holders of Bicholim taluka to deposit their firearms at the police station of their respective jurisdictions before April 22.
