Vasco: Five policemen were injured when the jeep they were travelling in turned turtle in Cortalim after its tyre got punctured.According to sources, police personnel from the Dabolim police station were travelling to Panaji to attend the weekly Friday parade. At around 7.30am, as they crossed the Cortalim junction, the front left wheel of their jeep got punctured causing the jeep to veer off the road and turn turtle.Four constables, Mithun Naik, Amit Bandekar, Kuldeep Naik and Disha Naik, and the driver of the jeep Purshottam Naik suffered injuries. The driver is still undergoing treatment.Sources have blamed the accident on the poor state of vehicles in use by the department. They say that though most of the jeeps are old and not in usable condition, they are still used, especially in search and rescue operations. The four personnel were treated at Goa Medical College and discharged.
