Congress wants govt to pay for all educational expenses

PANAJI: Criticising the state government for “unnecessary expenditure”, the Congress on Saturday demanded that the government spend more on the education sector. The Congress wants the government to bear students’ educational and travel expenses, and revert to the original school timings of 8am to 1pm.Naik said the demands were based on interaction with citizens during the outreach programme, ‘Jana Gana Mana, Noman Tuka Goenkara’. The state Congress unit went on to claim that with the slowdown in economic activity and inflation, families were struggling to pay for their children’s educational and travel expenses.“The govenrment is spending crores of rupees on unnecessary projects like destorying good roads to build concrete roads,” Congress spokesperson Yatish Naik said.National Students’ Union of India, Goa in-charge, Janardhan Bhandari, submitted a memorandum on behalf of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee to governor Mridula Sinha providing suggestions on how the government could spend the money.
