Cabbies stage stir over lsquoheftyrsquo waiting fee outside airport

The mamlatdar and deputy collector also rushed to bring the situation under control.Later, the taxi operators submitted a memorandum to South Goa collector Tariq Thomas. When they were told that Negi has refused come down, the mob again became restless again. Sources said Negi tried to convince the cab drivers the parking charges were part of the AAI national policy, while Lourenco assured the cab drivers of raising the issue during the ongoing assembly session. A meeting followed which was attended by both the parties.

Vasco/Margao: The scene outside the Dabolim airport turned chaotic for a while late afternoon on Saturday when tourist taxi operators staged a protest against the airport authorities for charging a ‘hefty’ waiting fee.Taxi owners, who have to pay Rs 100 if the waiting period while picking or dropping a passenger crossed five minutes, were led by the president of All Goa Taxi Union Association Bappa Korgaonkar and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco during the stir.Around 3:30pm, about 100 taxi owners started protesting outside the police station near the old airport terminal building.
