13 Margao councillors head to Diu

The institute regularly holds capacity-building programmes on issues pertaining to local urban bodies for elected representatives.While the tour is expected to equip the councillors with knowledge about the latest practices adopted in segregation and transportation of garbage, sources said the fact that previous such tours have failed to yield any tangible benefits on solid waste management has fuelled further doubts over the tour’s efficacy. Margao: Thirteen councillors of Margao Municipal Council ( MMC ) on Monday proceeded to Diu to attend a two-day workshop on ‘Segregation and Treatment of Garbage’ beginning from Tuesday.However, the absence of any municipal official in the team, led by MMC chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudessai, has led to questions over the seriousness of MMC’s participation in the workshop.Councillors Zita Crasto, Terence Barbosa, Peter Fernandes, Jose Fernandes, Pooja Naik, Ketan Kurtarkar, Damodar Naik, Doris Texeira, Deepa Shirodkar and Kutbuddin Bagewadi are part of the team visiting Diu.The workshop has been organised by the Regional Centre for Urban and Environment Studies of the All India Institute of Local Self Government.
