Bicholim/Colva: In two separate accidents on Saturday, an 18-year-old youth died on the spot at Navelim, while a hearing- and speech-impaired man lost both his legs in Bicholim.Shravan Datta Talwar, a resident of Sirvodem, died after he lost control of the two-wheeler he was riding and rammed it into the back of a stationary garbage collection truck at Navelim. He was rushed to Hospicio, Margao, where he was declared dead. Police inspector Kapil Nayak said the truck, owned by the Margao Municipal Council and driven by Parusharam Tawar, was parked alongside the divider to collect garbage when the accident occurred.In another incident, Gokuldas Naik, 55, a resident of Bordem, Bicholim, was seriously injured after a speeding truck knocked him down while he was crossing the road near the Hirabai Zantye hall, at Bicholim, on Saturday afternoon. Both his legs were crushed under the wheels. He was initially referred to the Bicholim primary health centre, and was subsequently shifted to GMC, Bambolim, where he is presently undergoing treatment. His condition is believed to be critical.
