A month on, 1,400 primary teachers await test results

PANAJI: Around 1,400 teachers appeared for a written test for the post of 182 Marathi government primary school teachers on November 11.But nearly a month later, the results of the test are yet to be declared. Goa is yet to hold its first TET.Clearing the TET has been made essential as per National Council for Teacher Education norms. Officials said that the number that appeared for the exam was big and therefore corrections of the answersheets is still on.The results of the test are eagerly awaited as the state has announced posts for government primary school teachers after a long gap.The posts had been announced after DEd qualified teachers protested that they have been unemployed as no hiring is taking place, while teachers continue to graduate from the DEd programme in the state.For the 182 posts announced now, it will be the first batch of teachers in the state to be selected based on a written test.Until now, the selection process only involved a viva. Altogether, 1,394 were issued seat numbers to answer the three-hour written test.The candidates will have to score a minimum of 45 marks out of 100 to be eligible to be considered for the posts.Of the posts advertised, 91 are in the general category, 45 are reserved for OBC, 43 reserved for ST and three for SC.Teachers appointed to the posts will have to pass a state held teacher eligibility test (TET) within their probation period of two years, after which their services will be regularised.
