Smart watches under scanner at exams

PANAJI: While several gadgets including mobile phones are already banned from being taken inside examination halls of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, the board is now facing a fresh challenge: how to tackle use of smart watches “It will be discussed at the board before the 2019 exams,” Goa Board chairman Ramkrishna Samant said.The state has been successful in keeping mobile phones out of the examination halls and students caught cheating in the state have mostly been seen using conventional methods of cheating.But, smart watches have still to be dealt with to ensure that no malpractices occur at the Class X and XII public exams.Many state boards like in Karnataka and national boards like ICSE already scan students for smart watches prior to entering the examination hall.The Goa Board Class XII exam is set to begin from February 28, which will be answered by 17,902 students through 17 centres across Goa.The Class XII practical examinations will be held from February 4 to 14.The board has vigilance squads in place to keep a check on malpractices during the exam.Goa Board also has a malpractices committee to which suspected cases are reported.
