Lifeguards save 10 tourists in separate incidents

In separate incidents of drowning reported from North Goa and South beaches , the life guards recused 10 tourists, a Drishti official said.This week saw a rise in domestic tourists with Thursday being a Valentine’s day. PANAJI: Drishti life guards posted along the 105 km coastline of Goa carried out multiple rescues on Friday. Life guards on patrol rushed to their rescue on a jet ski and brought them to safety, the Drishti official said. A tourism official said Goa always see big footfalls on Valentine’s week.“Goa is a short haul gateway. During last few years a trend has been observed that couples from neighbouring states visit Goa during Valentine’s week and there is an overall surge in tourists footfalls during this period,” he said.Most of the times, he said drowning incidents happen because tourists get into water despite warning by the life guards.

They swim in zones declared not safe while some venture into sea after consuming alcohol even as drinking on beaches is prohibited.A Drishti official said, lifeguards conducted two recuses each at Baga, Arambol and Vagator in North Goa and one at Arossim beach in South Goa.The life guards also rescued three fishermen at Mobor beach in South Goa when their fishing vessel capsized. Life guards on patrol rushed to their rescue on a jet ski and brought them to safety, the Drishti official said.
