Quepem: Judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Margao has issued a second non-bailable arrest warrant within ten months against Quepem councillor Amol Kanekar. Quepem PI Brutano Peixoto said that they have received the court’s arrest warrant, but Kanekar is absconding.The police have been directed to arrest the accused, and produce him before the court on or before February 28. tnn The judge has also convicted him for not repaying Rs 10 lakh to the complainant.Earlier in May 2018, Quepem police had arrested Kanekar in a bounced cheque case, and the JMFC had directed the police to lodge him in Colvale jail, but the accused got himself admitted to hospital after complaining of high blood pressure. He was later released on bail after furnishing 25% of the amount.JMFC Ashwini Khandolkar, in her judgment order dated January 1, 2018, had directed the accused to pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the complainant Safiya Bi Shaikwithin 30 days or, in default, to undergo imprisonment for 90 days.However, since Kanekar failed to pay the amount within 30 days and, subsequently, the sessions court judge rejected his appeal, the JMFC directed police to arrest him.
