Goa govt subsidy on farm equipment reverted to 90%

POINGUINIM: The government has reverted the subsidy amount on mini-tillers and weed-cutters from the current 50% and 75% respectively to 90%, Canacona zonal agriculture officer Chandrahas Desai informed.A few months back, the agriculture department had reduced the assistance amount on purchase of agricultural machinery from 90% to 50%. The economically weaker section of farmers in Canacona, particularly those from Cotigao and Gaondongrim, who are dependant on farming and farm-related activities as their main occupation, complained about facing hardships to upgrade their farming equipment.Consequently, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes wrote to the authorities concerned, requesting them to revert to the original subsidy amount for the farmers belonging to ST communities.The farmers have now expressed their happiness over the move.Appreciating the efforts of the authorities, Fernandes expressed his gratitude to agriculture minister Vijai Sardesai, tribal welfare minister Govind Gaude and the directors of agriculture and tribal welfare for their role in enhancing the subsidy.
