CEO seeks reports on poll code violation by CM BJP

Panaji: Goa’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has sought a report from the North and South Goa Collectors on the complaint filed against chief minister Pramod Sawant and BJP for allegedly violating the model code of conduct by organising public functions in memory of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar.Social activist Aires Rodrigues in his complaint on Tuesday alleged that since Parrikar’s demise on March 17, the Sawant-led coalition government and BJP were seeking to obtain unlawful political mileage at the cost of Parrikar.The collectors have been directed to report on whether any violation of the model code of conduct was detected. The CEO has also sought to know from the general administration department whether any government machinery was used in these programmes.Rodrigues in his complaint also drew the attention of the CEO to the alleged public statement made by Sawant that Parrikar’s ‘asthi kalash’ programme will help BJP win with a huge win.The so-called condolence meetings being held across Goa in memory of Parrikar were in fact BJP campaign meetings and the party, by ferrying his ashes across the state, was trying to illegally bolster its sagging image, the complaint stated.The social activist also accused BJP of publicising private visits by dignitaries to Parrikar’s residence.
