PANAJI: Union Ayush minister Shripad Naik , who is trying to secure a fifth term in parliament, on Friday filed his nomination paper to contest the North Goa Lok Sabha seat. Naik is one of the few MPs across the country to have won four consecutive parliament elections. After filing the nomination paper, both Naik and chief minister Pramod Sawant expressed confidence that the work of former CM Manohar Parrikar would ensure victory for the party in the parliamentary elections.Naik had won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections with a margin of over 1 lakh votes. Looking at the mood of the people of the state, Naik said, he was confident of increasing his winning margin this time.Wining both parliamentary seats is important for the party Sawant said even as he added that he was confident that the people were with BJP.“We know we are facing the first election without Parrikar, but we have our alliance partner with us, and the people of the state are with us. They will vote for BJP to pay their tribute to Parrikar, who has done a lot of development in the state,” Sawant said, adding that it was quite difficult for the party to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls in the absence of Parrikar. But people are aware about the central funds being spent for the development of the national highway in the state, he said, adding “Goans know what is right and wrong for the state.”The North Goa MP touched on the mining issue that could prove be a sore point for BJP this election.Stating that a resolution in the matter has been delayed due to technical reasons, Naik said that the party was trying its best to solve the issue.
