- Advertisement - Adv. Aires Rodrigues has sought the intervention of Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai for setting up of a Community Health Center at the Old Ribandar Hospital. Adv. Rodrigues in his letter sent to Governor Pillai today has drawn his attention that the Old Ribandar Hospital was Asias first medical school established in 1867 with a very glorious history and that this priceless heritage structure needs to be preserved by maintaining its history in restoring the premises with a full fledged Community Health Center having all possible Health Care facilities. Pointing out that since the Goa Medical Colleges Ribandar Hospital was moved to Bambolim there has been a longstanding demand of the local residents that Health care facilities be restored at the Old Ribandar Hospital to cater to the medical needs of the people Adv. Rodrigues in his letter has pointed out that in 2017 the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had publicly assured the residents of Ribandar that he would ensure that within three months full medical care facilities would be restored at the Old Ribandar Hospital. Adv. Rodrigues in his letter has also stated that on 8th October last year the local MLA Babush Monserrate had promised that the Health facilities at the Old Ribandar Hospital would start as 30 bedded with a 24X7 Casualty cum Trauma unit equipped with all the required facilities and that it would be expanded in stages to be a full-fledged Hospital while that very week the same was also assured by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Adv. Rodrigues has in his letter further stated that the Government has however been dithering on the promised medical facilities at the Old Ribandar hospital despite the fact that it would benefit not only the residents of Ribandar but also neighbouring residents of Chimbel Merces Old Goa and in the Island of Divar while all these Panchayats as well as the Corporation of the City of Panaji had adopted unanimous resolutions seeking that medical facilities at the old Ribandar Hospital be restored. Adv. Rodrigues in his letter has urged Governor Pillai to kindly intervene and ensure that this long overdue Community Health Center with all medical facilities is in public interest set up urgently at the Old Ribandar Hospital so that it is accessible round the clock for those requiring medical assistance.
