Churchill breathe easy after huge win over Chennai

Soosai Raj had equalized for the visitors after the restart but their fortress fell apart after Nigerian centre-back Anyichie Celestine received his second yellow card for handling the ball at the hour mark.Churchill started cautiously and struggled to split the rival defence. Rowilson Rodrigues and Adil Khan floated long balls to Anthony Wolfe and Kromah but Celestine and Chennai captain Dharmaraj Ravanan cleared every threat.Churchill finally got the breakthrough from a set piece. The rival defence panicked in the 22nd minute with Brandon’s powerful corner and Bektur happily nodded in from close during a goalmouth melee.Soosai inspired Chennai in the second session with a delightful curling effort past keeper Naveen Kumar to breathe new life in their campaign but in the 61st minute, Celestine was found to have handled the ball and Chennai fell like a pack of cards.Minutes later, Kromah played a quick one-two with Brandon and finished calmly to make it 2-1. Chennai were exposed yet again in the 82nd minute when Bektur was allowed to volley a freekick from Brandon.Substitutes Gabriel Fernandes and Anthony D’Souza combined well to set up Bektur for his hat-trick in the 84th minute.Brandon moved dangerously in the final minute and unleashed a scorching right-footer for the fifth. Then the talented midfielder perfected another set piece which Bektur headed in to complete the rout.Churchill take on defending champions Bengaluru FC in their final match of the season away on Saturday.
