Ponda: Heavy rains with gusty winds lashed parts of Ponda taluka on Tuesday bringing down trees damaging vehicles and a sweets manufacturing unit. Ponda central fire station said they received a total of eight calls of trees falling across Ponda town and surrounding villages. Three roads were also inaccessible for hours due to uprooting trees.Eight incidents of trees falling were reported causing damage to a temporary structure, a scooter, a car parking shed, two compound walls. A mango tree uprooted and collapsed on a temporary structure being used for manufacturing of sweets on Tuesday afternoon. While a tree fell on a car parking shed at Khadapabandh, a parked scooter was crushed below a fallen coconut tree near Almeida high School.
