Education is a three-way process where parents play an equally important role.”A parent asked in response, “Why did it take the school director 14 days and six newspaper articles to speak up? The post uses sexual expletives for the teacher and threatens her daughter with kidnapping and rape. As of now, it is not known if the threat was made by an adult or a minor. A meeting with parents was held at the school in which the father of the boy who allegedly wrote the post apologised for his son’s act to all parents. Unforgiving attitudes, harsh judgment, branding and labelling children for their mistakes is not something the school believes in.

Gurgaon: Police said on Friday they had written to the social media site on which a Class VII student allegedly wrote a post threatening a teacher of his school, a premier Gurgaon-based institution, and made a rape threat against her daughter, also a seventh standard student. The belated response from the cops, who had received a complaint on February 12 from the teacher’s husband, came after a series of TOI reports this week on the student’s shocking post. Various government departments are also looking into another message written by a Class VIII student of the same school propositioning candlelight dinner and sex to a teacher. With the school’s response also being questioned, its director wrote to all parents on Friday evening, terming the two incidents “abominable, offensive and unacceptable”. A meeting with parents was held at the school in which the father of the boy who allegedly wrote the post apologised for his son’s act to all parents. Some parents made their displeasure about the way he had handled the incident known to the school director, said a parent who was present at the meeting.Senior police officials said they were not aware that a complaint in the same case had been filed and dived into the files on Friday morning after TOI’s latest report revealed the complaint was given to the in-charge of the Gwalpahari police post but no FIR had been lodged. A senior officer said the complaint had not been brought to their attention as it appeared like a “routine matter” and the school had not been named. The Gwalpahari police post had forwarded the teacher’s husband’s complaint to the cyber cell. An investigator said in such cases, a preliminary inquiry is standard procedure to see if a cognisable offence has taken place and an FIR is registered only after the complaint is verified. Inspector Anand Yadav, who is in charge of the cell against cybercrimes, told TOI the cops had not realised the complaint was about the same incident that had been reported in the newspaper since the school had not been named by the teacher’s husband, and neither had the school approached the police with a complaint against the student.“We have asked for details (about the post, IP address, etc) and will know who committed the crime only then. As of now, it is not known if the threat was made by an adult or a minor. We will take action accordingly, when the details are out,” Yadav said. The Instagram account, with one follower and one post, is not identified by anyone’s name. The post uses sexual expletives for the teacher and threatens her daughter with kidnapping and rape. The teacher sent in her resignation to the school on Thursday, Her daughter hasn’t been able to return to school since the threat came to light. In the official mail to parents, the school’s director wrote, “Personally, I am deeply disappointed and troubled. As soon as these unfortunate incidents were brought to our notice, the school conducted thorough investigations with due diligence, which demand a measure of time. In both incidents, our investigation, conversations and discussions with the students, faculty and parents have brought to light facts which have been shared with the concerned people.”The director added, “At the school, we constantly teach and inspire values of mutual respect, tolerance, empathy and responsibility towards self and others. These recent incidents go against the very grain of what we as educators aim at inculcating in our children… A key purpose of education is to empower students to acknowledge and accept failure, correct the wrongs and make them right, to reflect on and recognise mistakes. Unforgiving attitudes, harsh judgment, branding and labelling children for their mistakes is not something the school believes in. Education is a three-way process where parents play an equally important role.”A parent asked in response, “Why did it take the school director 14 days and six newspaper articles to speak up? This is clearly an afterthought.”
