GURUGRAM: Power transmission company HVPN will be installing 11 high-capacity substations across Gurugram this year (2018-19), officials told TOI. A 400 kV line is faced step-down by a 220/66 kV substation, which is further brought down to 66/11 kV before it goes to consumers. “Transmission system works in a step by step way, it’s not direct. The projects are part of HVPN’s plans to increase the capacity from the current 2,673MVA to 3,278 MVA by next year. “The demand across Gurugram currently stands at 1,500 MVA.

GURUGRAM: Power transmission company HVPN will be installing 11 high-capacity substations across Gurugram this year (2018-19), officials told TOI. Additionally, they will install 12 transformers at different substations and augment six more. The projects are part of HVPN’s plans to increase the capacity from the current 2,673MVA to 3,278 MVA by next year. As per HVPN projections, it should be able to increase the capacity to 4,011 MVA by year 2020-21.Officials said the capacity of transmission system was much higher than the demand already. “The demand across Gurugram currently stands at 1,500 MVA. But our system has the capacity to bear the transmission of around 2,673 MVA,” an official said. Officials also said the expansion is expected to help new sectors 58–115 and also with the equitable load sharing, keeping in view the increasing urbanization. “Transmission system works in a step by step way, it’s not direct. A 400 kV line is faced step-down by a 220/66 kV substation, which is further brought down to 66/11 kV before it goes to consumers. Parallely, we also break down the 400 kV line to 33 kV.“If the demand starts to increase around the steps down the line, the infrastructure has to be increased up the line as well on the substation level. To this end, and considering that demand across the city continues to grow every year, we are in the continuous process of building new substations and augmenting the existing ones of varied intensities across the city,” the official said, adding that transmission lines were facing frequent disruptions due to towering trees like Eucalyptus, whose branches interfere with power lines.
