Bus service to start with ring route from Huda City Centre

GURUGRAM: When the city bus service starts, one route will be like Delhi’s Ring Road service, forming a loop across several important places in the city.Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) has finalised the maps for all 11 routes for the upcoming city bus service. Initially, 60 drivers and conductors will be appointed for the Huda City Centre loop. The circular bus route (number 6, also called Huda City Centre loop) will be the first to be launched, likely on August 15 this year.The 25.1km-long stretch will have 44 stops and will pass through Hero Honda Chowk and Gurugram railway station . “The deadline for the launch of the first route, the circular one, has been finalised for next month. We’re in talks with several banks to facilitate this, and to provide POS machines on the buses,” said Khare.

It will require a fleet of 23 buses, which will ply at a frequency of eight minutes on both ‘up’ and ‘down’ sides, and is expected to ferry 11,594 people daily.The other 10 routes will be Bus Stand to Manesar (12km), Harsaru to Dundhera (11.9km), Huda City Centre to Dharampuri (13km), Sector 2 to Ghata village (19.7km), Basai Chowk to Huda City Centre (12km), Bus Stand to Farrukhnagar (19.5km), Bus Stand to Palam Vihar (10.5km), Cyber City to Badshapur (17.7km), Bus Stand to Ambience Mall (12.2km) and Sector 56 to Dundahera (16.3km). According to officials, in total, the service will require 210 buses, including 19 buses for maintenance.The buses will cost Rs 53.13 crore, the tender for which was allotted to a private firm on July 9. It will also provide drivers and conductors. Initially, 60 drivers and conductors will be appointed for the Huda City Centre loop. GMCBL will also construct 328 bus queue shelters for another Rs 40 crore. “The deadline for the launch of the first route, the circular one, has been finalised for next month. The construction of bus queue shelters has begun, and remaining infrastructure too is being set up to ensure a timely launch of other routes,” said Chandrashekar Khare, CEO, GMCBL.A committee has been formed to finalise bus fares, which, too, will be decided within the next 10 days. Meanwhile, officials have decided to offer both cash and digital modes of payment to commuters. “The buses will have options for payment through cards, mobile wallets as well as cash. We’re in talks with several banks to facilitate this, and to provide POS machines on the buses,” said Khare.
