After residents’ complaints, MCG razes down 100 permanent structures near CHD Avenue

“We have been rigorously following up with MCG officials for the removal of these structures whose occupants were creating nuisance and raising sanitation concerns by defecating in the open. GURUGRAM: MCG demolished 100 shanties in front of CHD Avenue society in Fazilpur Jharsa on Saturday morning.The demolition drive was carried out under the supervision of duty magistrate and joint commissioner Ravindra Yadav. Earlier on Saturday, MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav inspected the area, following which orders were issued to clear the shanties.CHD Avenue residents had been writing to the MCG commissioner for the removal of the illegal shanties, alleging the land mafia built the same to earn rent money. Overall, it was illegal and we are glad that the civic body has finally taken action,” said Rajan Chibbar, RWA member, CHD Avenue 71.Several illegal slums have been developed and are run by the land mafia in Sikanderpur, South City 1 and other areas across the city.Recently, a fire broke out in a slum, which had been illegally built on Huda land in Sector 49, reducing 150 shanties to ashes. As many as 50 cops were part of the operation on a private land which had been illegally occupied by the land mafia.“The ‘pucca’ shanties were being rented out to labourers working on nearby projects and construction sites,” said Yadav.The shanty-dwellers had been given multiple notices to vacate the area, failing which the demolition drive was carried out, said officials.
