Rains lash parts of Punjab, Haryana

CHANDIGARH: Rains lashed many parts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday, leading to a dip in the mercury by a few notches.In Haryana, Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Karnal and Narnaul were among places that received rains. Mohali, Ropar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar in Punjab were also lashed by rains.After the rains, the maximum temperature dropped at several places.Meanwhile, Ludhiana remained waterlogged for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. The sanitation staff was deputed on the job to clean the gullies, which is usually done by sewer cleaners. Two days of rainfall has not only troubled the residents, but also left the civic officials helpless.With the municipal corporation (MC) having no concrete plan to reduce waterlogging, its officials blamed higher intensity of rainfall. The cleaning of road gullies and choked sewers, which was supposed to take place before rainy season, was started on Tuesday that too when officers came for inspection.If the exercise had been undertaken earlier, the situation would have been different.
