GURUGRAM: Over a dozen illegal structures, including mainly bike repairing shops and eateries, were demolished along Dakshin Marg of DLF 2 area on Tuesday.Officials said commercial activities had been going illegally on at least three residential plots in the area. “As per the rules, it is not allowed to carry out any kind of illegal activities in residential colonies. These shops were demolished earlier too, but they didn’t pay heed. Now, we have razed them again. And this time, if anyone tries to encroach the freed spots again, legal action will be initiated,” said Ved Prakash, DTP (enforcement).Sources said the department of town and country planning (DTCP) carried out the drive following complaints about illegal commercial activities in the area. According to local residents, the shops had encroached upon the streets, reducing the driveway and adding to traffic woes. In this regard, the enforcement wing of the department had demolished these structures on February 8. However, the squatters built the shops again, prompting members of DLF Qutab Enclave Residents’ Welfare Association to file a complaint on the CM Window on February 15.The residents alleged that private owners had allowed some traders to set up restaurants, bouquets and vegetable stalls on Dakshin Marg in violation of norms. “There have been at least half a dozen instances of snatching in the area over the past month. Moreover, vehicles stop outside these shops, creating snarls throughout the day,” said RS Rathee, president, DLF Qutab Enclave Residents’ Welfare Association.
