GURUGRAM: GPL Eden Heights residents have demanded the dismantling and rebuilding of the garden area above the basement, alleging that the basement’s ceiling was not water proof and did not prevent the seepage of rain and gardening water into the building, thereby weakening its foundation. They have also demanded that DTP (planning) refuse the completion certificate to the builder till the work is done.Residents told TOI that after the monsoon showers, water was rushing into the building and weakening its foundation. Jasvinder Singh , a resident, said, “This is happening because the developer has used a sub-standard material for this building. It seems there are no checks and balances that restrain them from doing so.”Residents also alleged that the steel bars which held the building were prone to oxidation. “Their rusting will eventually endanger the building and it will come apart at its seams,” said a resident. “We got possession of flats in September 2014 and after the very first rain, we realised the problem which has only worsened.”Residents said the stagnant water in the basement also posed a health hazard and risked mosquito breeding. “We had taken the matter up with DTP (planning) RS Baath in November 2017. He promised that a meeting on the issue would be held to try resolve it. But it has been eight months since then and no meeting has taken place.”A hearing date was scheduled for July 2018 but postponed “till further notice”. “We want the hearing as soon as possible,” residents said.An official from Gupta Builders said that such problems were normal during the monsoon. “During heavy rainfall, it is quite normal for water to accumulate but we have adequate measures in place to resolve the problem,” he added.
