Gurgaon: Union minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh, on Friday, came down heavily on city authorities, regarding complaints received against Ecogreen , the solid waste management agency contracted by the city. Inderjit was holding a meeting at Niti Aayog that was attended by Aayog advisors, as well as deputy commissioner and GMDA CEO V Umashankar.During the meeting, he said he has received several complaints from councillors and residents against the agency, and asked for a report from authorities, asking them to probe the complaints. Sources said he highlighted that Ecogreen was not fulfilling terms of its agreement, and sought explanations from officials for the same. “The state of waste management in the city is going for a toss,” he said.“Not only have I been getting complaints from RWAs and councillors, but also from individuals on my e-mail,” he added. He also spoke of health concerns being posed in Bandhwari, where the Ecogreen’s waste treatment plant is located, and sought reports on the problem with leachate from the plant, and consequent groundwater contamination.Just months into its operations, TOI had reported that residents had filed a number of complaints against Ecogreen, claiming that the company, which was sub-contracted by MCG to collect garbage from across the city, was levying service charges to residents who had not opted for their waste pick-up service, and was adding water to increase the weight of the garbage collected, since it gets paid by weight of garbage collected.Residents of Bandhwari had also complained that leachate from the garbage dump in the plant has seeped through small outlets into the groundwater and on to the Aravalis.Ankit Agarwal, CEO of Ecogreen Energy, said they are committed to maintaining the city’s sanitation system. “Managers have been appointed on our behalf at ward-level for better cleanliness in Gurgaon. Also, uncovered dumpyards are being closed. The company is running over 450 three-wheelers for door-to-door garbage collection. Transfer stations have also been set up. All the problems of residents will be taken care of. The situation will improve manifold in the long run. We promise our residents we’ll do better.”
