CM Manohar Lal Khattar slams oppn over SYL, Swaminathan panel report

CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday accused the opposition of misleading people on the issue of Satluj-Yamuna link (SYL) canal, Swaminathan Commission report and caste-based politics.“It is your responsibility to separate the grain from chaff and play the role of a watchman. You all know how the opposition has been playing a negative role,’’ Khattar said while addressing a public meeting at Shahabad in Kurukshetra district . Khattar also advised farmers of southern Haryana to opt for alternative crops instead of ‘jiri’.“There is shortage of water in southern Haryana. At present, the GDP rate of Haryana is 8.2% whereas national GDP is 7.8%. He announced Rs 50 crore for the construction and renovation of four bridges in Shahabad.

He lashed out at the opposition, saying jobs were earlier given through chit system, but the present state government had put an end to it and done recruitments for about 26,000 jobs on merit basis.“People can inform me if anyone has taken money in the name of getting them jobs. Action would be taken against the guilty,” he added.Khattar said gross domestic product (GDP) had to be increased for the progress and development of the country. At present, the GDP rate of Haryana is 8.2% whereas national GDP is 7.8%. “In order to increase the country’s GDP, we will have to increase the GDP of Haryana up to 10%.’’The chief minister said sunflower crop of farmers in Shahabad Mandi area would be procured and provision made for setting up factories for making ghee and oil from sunflower. Khattar also advised farmers of southern Haryana to opt for alternative crops instead of ‘jiri’.“There is shortage of water in southern Haryana. Therefore, some other crops, which need less irrigation , should be sown instead of ‘jiri’. Vegetable growers are earning more profit these days. The state government has introduced Bhavantar Bharpayee Yojana to make farming risk-free,’’ he said.Khattar also elaborated upon the impact in the steps taken under the Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme launched in the state.In view of the demand for seven works made today, the chief minister directed that feasibility of these works be checked and, if found feasible, work should be started on them. He announced Rs 50 crore for the construction and renovation of four bridges in Shahabad.
