HISAR: Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda launched the fourth phase of his ‘Jankranti Yatra’ in Fatehabad district’s Tohana area with the promise of 50% cut in electricity tariffs if voted to power. While giving a slogan of ‘karenge ek khas kaam, poori bijli, aadhe daam’, the former chief minister also promised to implement the Swaminathan Commission recommendation in toto.Addressing a crowd even as it rained at the grain market, Hooda also attacked the BJP government for “pushing farmers into acute distress and misleading them with false promises”. “We don’t make false promises. We had waived pending electricity bills worth Rs 1,600 crore, even though the promised was made by someone else,” he said.“Haryana farmers know that they were getting Rs 5,000 per quintal for paddy and Rs 7,500 per quintal for cotton. Under the circumstances, there seems to be no justification for fixing the MSPs at Rs 1,750 and Rs 5,150 for these crops,” he said.“BJP have neither provided the jobs nor the unemployment allowance. Matters have reached a point where the youth have run out of money to pay for the application fees,” he said. “We will waive off application fees for all Haryana government jobs once the Congress is elected back,” Hooda promised.Hooda said it was a matter of shame that Haryana has become the No. 1 in the country for crime against women. “The situation has become so bad that the police have stopped registering cases and the horrible case in Panchkula is the latest example,” he said. The Congress leader repeated his promise of raising old age pension to Rs 3,000 per month.
