Gurgaon makes big leap in sex ratio, from 15th to 6th spot

It was 914 last year.According to the state public relations department, the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign has changed the scenario of sex ratio in the state. GURUGRAM: The city has leaped from the 15th position last year to sixth this year in sex ratio at birth (SRB), according to data released by the state government. Project officer of integrated child development services Sunaina Khatri also gave credit to the campaign for the results in Gurugram and Haryana, which had been known for its skewed sex ratio. Another 18 districts had SRB above 900 from January to June 2018.Neighboring district Mewat continues to show improvement with SRB at 916, this year. Same goes for Jajjar which had got good numbers last year — 920, a significant improvement from 884 in 2016.

GURUGRAM: The city has leaped from the 15th position last year to sixth this year in sex ratio at birth (SRB), according to data released by the state government. The data is collected over six months from January to June.On the top is Kaithal district with SRB at 950, followed by Yamunanagar with SRB at 945, Kurukshetra with 939, Sonepat with 933, Sirsa with 926, Gurugram with 931, Hisar with 916 and Rewari with 926.Fatehabad showed the lowest SRB at 870, followed by Jhajjar with SRB at 881, Mahendergarh district with 880 and Rohtak with 897. Fatehabad’s result stands out as it had done remarkably well with SRB at 918 in 2016 (the third position), followed by 909 in 2017. Same goes for Jajjar which had got good numbers last year — 920, a significant improvement from 884 in 2016. Another 18 districts had SRB above 900 from January to June 2018.Neighboring district Mewat continues to show improvement with SRB at 916, this year. It was 908 last year and 912 in 2016. Despite being ahead of Mewat in terms of infrastructure and named Millennium City, Gurugram was lagging behind its neighbour with SRB at 901 in 2017 and 883 in 2016 but has now taken the lead.Overall, SRB in Haryana has increased from 827 girls per 1,000 boys in 2005 to 916 this year, showing gradual improvement. Deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said, “Due to efforts of the district task force which monitors implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, the SRB in Gurugram has been improving since 2015. As many as 30 FIRs have been registered against violators, this year.”Chief medical officer Gulshan Arora said that several raids, including some inter-state operations across Delhi, UP and Uttaranchal, had been conducted to curb female feticide.
