Railway gateman’s hand chopped off in Haryana

CHANDIGARH: Unidentified assailants attacked a railway gateman and chopped off one of his hands at Safiabad village in Sonipat district late on Sunday night. The gateman’s friend was also attacked.Kundan Pathak and his friend Chandan Singh have sustained stab injuries, police said on Monday. Railway officials confirmed the blocking of the track but maintained that it did not affect the train services. Kundan has been admitted to a hospital in New Delhi, where his wrist was reattached after a major surgery on Monday. Since the victims are not fit to give a statement at the moment, we cannot comment on the possible cause.

However, doctors have said both men are critical.Government railway police (GRP) have registered a case of attempt to murder at Sonipat police station on the basis of information provided by Delhi zone railway senior section engineer R R Meena GRP Sonipat station house officer Tara Chand said they have formed three teams to crack the case. “We are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras in the area. Besides, police are also trying to ascertain whether there is an enmity angle. Since the victims are not fit to give a statement at the moment, we cannot comment on the possible cause. Our crime investigation agency (CIA) and cybercrime teams are also on the job,” the SHO said.Railway employees blocked the Delhi-Sonipat railtrack on Monday to protest against the incident. Railway officials confirmed the blocking of the track but maintained that it did not affect the train services.
