MCG frees up government land to build Basai plant

“We had orders from the commissioner to remove the encroachment from the MCG land adjoining the site of the proposed construction of the waste plant. GURUGRAM: The MCG razed several permanent structures encroaching on 4,000 square yards of government land adjoining the proposed construction and demolition waste (malba) treatment plant site in Basai on Thursday.The structures demolished included five shops, a hall and some smaller structures.The drive was conducted under the supervision of the MCG executive engineer. Construction of the plant was on hold for months after a Delhi-based NGO moved National Green Tribunal against the project, claiming that it was detrimental to the Basai wetland.Meanwhile, another team of MCG officials carried out an anti-encroachment drive at several commercial areas in the city on Thursday, including Sector 31 market, where goods displayed in front of the shops were seized.
