Snag hits power supply to government hospital for two days

The General Hospital in Civil Lines faced blackouts due to faults in power lines twice in July. The power supply to the 200-bed hospital snapped on Monday owing to a fault in the high voltage direct line. GURUGRAM: Hundreds of patients and staff at Civil hospital in Sector 10 had to undergo a tough time till Wednesday night after the power supply was snapped for two days. We had to refer surgery and other critical cases to the General Hospital in Civil Lines for the two days. No permanent solution has yet been found to solve the fault, according to sources.The outage lasted longer at the emergency and maternity wards of the hospital, and the supply was resumed on Thursday evening.

No permanent solution has yet been found to solve the fault, according to sources.The outage lasted longer at the emergency and maternity wards of the hospital, and the supply was resumed on Thursday evening. Sunita Kumari, a patient, said, “It was unbearable. The smell of medicines and other stuff was overpowering. I am sicker now than when I came here.”The situation was much more delicate in the maternity ward but no unfortunate incidents were reported.Saryu Sharma, the principal medical officer told TOI, “We managed to keep the hospital functional with the only generator and inverter available. We had to refer surgery and other critical cases to the General Hospital in Civil Lines for the two days. On Monday, however, we conducted a caesarian birth operation and fortunately, it went well.” She said that the hospital had to spend over one lakh rupees to get the fault corrected, but it remains to be streamlined to prevent such the black-out again.
