Hisar on edge as verdict in 2 murder cases against Rampal on Thursday

HISAR: Keeping in view the probable law and order disruption due to verdict in two murder cases against controversial godman Rampal of Satlok Ashram on Thursday, the police conducted a flag march in Hisar district on Wednesday. This team will handle the overall responsibility of the entire district’s security.”The two cases of murder, in which verdict is awaited, were lodged in November 2014 at the Barwala police station of Hisar. The arguments were also completed on October 8 in the court set up at Hisar jail. They had been camping in public places that is posing problems to the residents. He said, “The police team led by DIG Balan and assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Rahul Dev has been given the responsibility to handle the law and order.

Deputy commissioner Ashok Kumar Meena and special task force (STF) in-charge deputy inspector general of police (DIG) B Satheesh Balan led the flag march in different parts of the district.Rampal and some of his followers were acquitted on August 29, 2017, in two cases of illegal confinement and obstructing government officials from performing their duties. Now, five cases, including sedition and murder, against Rampal and his followers are pending in a Hisar court.Meena said to ensure that followers of the jailed godman did not turn violent after the court pronounces the verdict in murder cases against him, the district administration had deployed duty magistrates and police force to maintain law and order.He added that a team had been constituted under additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Amarjit Singh Mann comprising deputy director (agriculture) Vinod Phogat and block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) Jaipal Tanwar to maintain vigil in the district. He said, “The police team led by DIG Balan and assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Rahul Dev has been given the responsibility to handle the law and order. This team will handle the overall responsibility of the entire district’s security.”The two cases of murder, in which verdict is awaited, were lodged in November 2014 at the Barwala police station of Hisar. The first case pertains to the death of a woman in the Satlok Ashram in Barwala and in the second four women and a child had died when thousands of followers of Rampal had clashed with police when they had come to arrest him following directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court after committed contempt of court.In both cases, recording of prosecution and defence witnesses has been completed. The arguments were also completed on October 8 in the court set up at Hisar jail. After hearing the arguments from both sides, additional sessions Judge D R Chalia had then fixed the cases for Thursday.Hoping to get a favourable verdict for the jailed spiritual leader, his followers had started moving to Hisar on September 28 even as the police had put up barricades at all entry points to the city to check the visitors. They had been camping in public places that is posing problems to the residents.
