GURUGRAM: The hearing of the Kherki Daula toll plaza shift case that was scheduled to come up before the national green tribunal ( NGT ) on November 13 has been postponed to December 10.The environmentalists, however, felt that the NHAI is determined to shift the toll plaza to Sehrawan, and is waiting to acquire the land. Ram Avtar Yadav, an environmentalist and former sarpanch of Manesar, said, “Why doesn’t NHAI leave their interest in Sehrawan? It is clear that with forest all around the highway, the authority would not be able to set up a toll plaza in this area. NHAI is playing a game. They want to keep both Sehrawan and Panchgaon land.”However, NHAI officials denied the allegations and said they were ready to shift the toll to Panchgaon but are waiting for the district administration’s decision.“We have our plan set to make a 36-lane toll plaza at Panchgaon. We will surrender our case in the NGT if the district administration also does the same,” an NHAI official said.According to NHAI officials, the 36-lane toll plaza that has been proposed at Panchgaon will ensure less traffic congestion than the Kherki Daula toll plaza which has 25 lanes.“We cannot stop operations at Kherki Daula toll plaza till the shifting is completed. Once the location is finalised, it will take the agency 10 months to set up the toll plaza at the new location,” said a senior NHAI official.Around 80,000 vehicles cross the Kherki Daula toll plaza on a regular basis and the toll collected is Rs 40 lakh per day.
