Child’s rapist-killer may still be in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: The prime suspect in the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl whose body was found in a slum on Monday has been caught on CCTV cameras, moving from one place to another and having community meals. They, along with neighbours, started a search for her and police recovered her naked and mutilated body from the room on Monday. The girl was playing outside her house and her parents were away for work when Sunil approached her. During this previous stay, he molested a girl after which he was thrashed and thrown out of the job. So, he moved back to his native place in UP,” said a senior police officer.Sunil allegedly returned to Gurugram around a week ago and had been looking for a job while staying at his sister’s place.

On Wednesday, Sunil (20) was spotted at one such gathering near the Old Gurugram bus stand, police officers said, adding that they would arrest him soon.Investigation has revealed that Sunil has little money and has not been able to move out of the city. However, he has been changing his location in the city since the incident to evade arrest.Police are now keeping an eye on religious places where food is offered for free and areas where community meals are organised.According to police, Sunil lured the three-year-old girl from the slum on the pretext of buying her chocolates and then raped and murdered her. He is suspected to be a repeat offender. “In 2015, Sunil was in the city and working as a daily wage labourer. During this previous stay, he molested a girl after which he was thrashed and thrown out of the job. So, he moved back to his native place in UP,” said a senior police officer.Sunil allegedly returned to Gurugram around a week ago and had been looking for a job while staying at his sister’s place. “We have rounded up a few people and raids are being conducted at multiple places to catch him,” added the officer.Police have also acquired the CCTV footage of a residential society in Sector 66. In the footage, Sunil is seen walking with the girl on Sunday afternoon.He, along with the girl, is also seen going inside a room used for storing cattle fodder but later exiting the room alone. The girl was playing outside her house and her parents were away for work when Sunil approached her. The parents came to know that their child was missing only after they returned home. They, along with neighbours, started a search for her and police recovered her naked and mutilated body from the room on Monday.
