Gurugram: BJP heavyweights in Haryana are competing with each other to bring in crowds for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally near Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in Gurugram on Monday for the inauguration of the KMP expressway.The party is learnt to have issued a diktat, asking its leaders to ensure there is a crowd of not less than 50,000 on the occasion.Party sources said each leader from a specific region had been given a specific target for the event, which the party also aims to use to reach out to voters in neighbouring Rajasthan, which is going to polls next month.Alwar district, for example, has 11 assembly seats with a considerable amount of Ahir population (Yadavs) and the party is attempting to strike a chord with the target group there through its Ahir leaders in Haryana, the sources said. Thus, following the party fiat, two prominent Yadav leaders as well as known foes from Gurugram — local MP and a minister of state in the Modi government Rao Inderjit Singh and Haryana cabinet minister Rao Narbir Singh — are leaving no stone unturned to meet their targets.Sources said the two leaders had been visiting places in their respective constituencies, urging people to attend the Monday rally.Also, they have been holding public meetings in far-flung areas, such as Bawal, Rewari, Mahendergarh and Narnaul, among other areas, to spread word about the high-profile event.A senior BJP functionary revealed that a strategy had been prepared to find out which leader ensured the maximum footfall.“This is a very crucial event for all BJP leaders who are aspiring to get a party ticket for the coming Lok Sabha and Haryana elections. Last month, the state leadership had to face embarrassment as it could not gather enough crowd for the Rohtak rally. Thus, it has now given an ultimatum to Gurugram leaders to avoid a similar embarrassment this time around. The leaders will be distributing T-shirts and caps of different colours to the people brought in by them so that the party leadership gets to know who pulled in the largest number,” he added.Talking about the timing of the rally, sources point out that the party wanted to make the most out of the feud within its rival INLD.“Earlier, the PM was supposed to inaugurate the KMP Expressway remotely. But, the party realized that if he held a rally instead, taking time out of his busy schedule, it might help dent the INLD vote bank. The PM will showcase the achievement of the Haryana government in the past four years and inaugurate a few development projects as well on Monday,” said a party leader.
