Man cheated of Rs 8 lakh in exchange fraud

Gurugram: A Delhi-based currency exchange agent was allegedly cheated of Rs 8 lakh by a couple. He took US dollars (USD) from them in exchange of Rs 8 lakh. They took Rs 8 lakh from me and gave me a packet. Later when I checked the package, I found there was just plain paper below the first few notes. He alleged that a few days ago, the couple contacted him for the exchange.“They negotiated with me for a few days and I was called to Gurugram’s Patel Nagar on Thursday.

Gurugram: A Delhi-based currency exchange agent was allegedly cheated of Rs 8 lakh by a couple. He took US dollars (USD) from them in exchange of Rs 8 lakh. Later, he found there were only two-three dollar bills in the package and the rest was just paper.Agent Hukam Chand, a resident of Delhi’s Moti Bagh, filed a complaint with Civil Lines police station on Friday. He alleged that a few days ago, the couple contacted him for the exchange.“They negotiated with me for a few days and I was called to Gurugram’s Patel Nagar on Thursday. I met them at 4pm. They took Rs 8 lakh from me and gave me a packet. I could see original dollars on the top. Later when I checked the package, I found there was just plain paper below the first few notes. I ran back to the spot but they had fled,” Chand said in his complaint.An FIR has been registered against the unidentified couple under sections 379 (theft), 420 (cheating) of IPC.
