Gurugram: 3-year-old girl's rapist-killer nabbed in Jhansi

GURUGRAM: A 20-year-old man accused of torturing and raping a three-year-old girl and then murdering her by smashing her skull was arrested in Uttar Pradesh on Monday after a week-long chase that began from a slum in Gurugram and had police looking in three states before finally zeroing in on him in Jhansi The suspect, Sunil, was tracked to Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh where he was spotted on CCTV cameras on Saturday. Eventually, he was nabbed at Magarpur village in Jhansi, which is two hours from Gwalior.According to sources, the accused has shown no remorse and has been maintaining silence. A senior investigator said he was spotted at a community kitchen in a local Bhairav mandir in Gwalior. A police team tried to arrest him there on Saturday but he managed to flee. Police then checked CCTV footage and followed him to Jhansi.The SIT team that was looking for Sunil was accompanied by his brother-in-law. "We looked for him at community kitchens, as he is fond of 'bhandaras'. On Saturday, we reached the Bhairav mandir in Gwalior where the priest confirmed he was at the bhandara, but we could not find him. On Saturday night, we got to know from CCTV footage that he had taken a Jhansi-bound train from the nearby railway station in the morning," an SIT member said."We followed him to Jhansi. He had found work as a labourer there. On Sunday night, a labourer recognised him from his photo and told us he had left for Jhansi railway station after work. His brother-in-law told us he might be going to Magarpur village, where one of his relatives lives. On Monday, we started our journey to Magarpur and finally nabbed him," the SIT member added. Sunil will be produced in a city court on Tuesday.
