Discom set to install 50 more transformers in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: Power discom DHBVN is planning to install at least 50 transformers across the city in the next three months as part of its winter maintenance exercise.According to discom officials, a survey is underway to ascertain the capacity and requirement of individual areas. We expect to install at least 50 transformers, mostly of a capacity of 100kVA or 200 kVA. In winter, people can put up will the small cuts, if they happen due to such work,” a discom official said. The total number of consumers in Gurugram is currently around 5 lakh. This maintenance is practically impossible to do in summers when demand remains high and electricity is required all the time.

It is likely to conclude next month.DHBVN officials told TOI that they are anticipating an increase in the total number of consumers in the city in 2019, which will also cause a rise in the overall demand for power.Power demand in Gurugram had touched a record 309 lakh units per day on 12 July this year, breaking the previous record of 288 lakh units per day on 5 June 2017.Officials said the discom is adding new consumers every month. “Besides, load on the infrastructure is also increasing by the day. We have to keep assessing how much infrastructure we have, how many consumers have been added to a designated area and the percentage at which the demand is growing. All this will form the final assessment, on the basis of which we will be able to augment infrastructure accordingly. We expect to install at least 50 transformers, mostly of a capacity of 100kVA or 200 kVA. We will have to do all the augmentation in the winter season itself when the demand is low,” said KC Aggarwal, superintendent engineer, New Gurugram.Currently, the power demand in Gurugram stands at 170 lakh units per day. The total number of consumers in Gurugram is currently around 5 lakh. “We have started our annual preventive maintenance programme, in which we conduct feeder patrolling, cleaning and replacement of conductors and other work. This maintenance is practically impossible to do in summers when demand remains high and electricity is required all the time. In winter, people can put up will the small cuts, if they happen due to such work,” a discom official said.
