3 men get 20 years in jail for gang rape

Gurgaon: A city court has awarded 20-year imprisonment to three people in a gang rape case dating back to July 2016. The other two accused were also arrested later.Public prosecutor Vinod Kumar said the accused were known to the woman. The accused had spiked the woman’s drink with a sedative and raped her when she was alone in her house. After receiving the complaint, a case was registered against the accused.The prime accused Brijesh was arrested from Saharsa district of Bihar on August 28 and taken to Gurgaon.

Gurgaon: A city court has awarded 20-year imprisonment to three people in a gang rape case dating back to July 2016. The accused had spiked the woman’s drink with a sedative and raped her when she was alone in her house. They also made a video of the act.Additional sessions judge Rajni Yadav handed down the punishment and imposed a penalty of Rs 60,000 on each accused, holding them guilty under sections 367D (gang rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Convicts Brijesh Chaudhary, Aman and Vishal, who have been in jail since August 2016, will remain in jail till completion of their 20-year jail term. In case the convicts fail to pay the penalty, they will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of six years.The complainant alleged that on July 25, 2016, her husband was out of the city for some office work and her three children, aged between 5 and 10, were in school, when her neighbour Brijesh, came to her house with his two friends — Aman and Vishal — on the pretext of celebrating her husband’s birthday. All three accused stayed in the same neighbourhood.Since the accused were known to the woman, she allowed them to enter her house. The woman was offered a drink spiked with sedatives, and after having it, she lost consciousness. The three accused then raped the woman and also recorded the act.“I told my husband everything as soon as he was back by evening. We searched for Brijesh, Aman and Vishal for a few days, but could not trace them. After few days, I started getting threat calls from them. Fearing for my life, I didn’t report the matter to police immediately,” said the woman, adding that she decided to write a letter to police a few days later then.Assistant public prosecutor Vinod Kumar said that on August 3, 2016, the women’s police station in Sector 51 received an anonymous complaint. The letter was written by a 32-year-old mother of three, originally from Rewari. After receiving the complaint, a case was registered against the accused.The prime accused Brijesh was arrested from Saharsa district of Bihar on August 28 and taken to Gurgaon. The other two accused were also arrested later.Public prosecutor Vinod Kumar said the accused were known to the woman. “There was a delay in filing the FIR as the woman was in trauma,” said Kumar.
