Gurgaon: A city court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 10 years of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 60,000 on him for raping a Class V student two years ago.The man, Rinku, was picked up from his house in Wazirabad in December 2016 after her parents lodged a complaint with the police, accusing him of raping and intimidating their daughter repeatedly. Police said the girl lived with her parents and siblings in the same village and knew the man, who was their neighbour Investigation revealed that Rinku used to watch and follow the girl whenever she would come out of her house. On December 10, 2016, he pounced on her when she was alone and forcefully took her to an isolated place in Devi Lal Park, where he raped her. When she tried to raise alarm, he gagged her mouth. While leaving, he warned her against telling anyone about what had happened there.Scared, the girl returned home but did not share anything with her parents. Next day, she went to school, where her teachers found her crying. When asked, she confided her ordeals to her class teacher, who, in turn, informed her parents.In her complaint to police, the father said, “The youth raped his daughter multiple times by threatening to disclose everything in the village and shame her family. She had been scared and thus, had not told anything initially. Then one day, he dragged him to an isolated place and raped her again. Unable to take it anymore, she finally confided in her teacher.” The father further said Rinku, along with some of his friends, regularly passed lewd comments at girls in the neighbourhood.Based on her father’s complaint, an FIR was registered under the POCSO Act at the women’s police station, and Rinku was rounded up.Though her father alleged rape on multiple occasions, the police investigation could establish only one such incident and filed a chargesheet before court in February 2017.Finally, additional sessions judge Rajni Yadav held Rinku guilty and awarded him 10 years of jail.
