NHAI still needs land for ramp of Ambience underpass

Gurgaon: NHAI’s contractor for the Ambience Mall underpass and the Shankar Chowk elevated U-turn formally inaugurated work on both projects on Friday after a puja at its on-site office. “We are in the process of taking the land which is essential for making the ramp of the underpass,” said a senior NHAI official.The total cost of both the projects is around Rs 161.90 crore. Work on the ground will start from next week, according to officials of Ram Kumar Contractor.The highways authority still doesn’t have 1.22 acres to construct the ramp of the underpass.

Gurgaon: NHAI’s contractor for the Ambience Mall underpass and the Shankar Chowk elevated U-turn formally inaugurated work on both projects on Friday after a puja at its on-site office. Work on the ground will start from next week, according to officials of Ram Kumar Contractor.The highways authority still doesn’t have 1.22 acres to construct the ramp of the underpass. Currently, that land belongs to Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL). According to sources, NHAI has asked Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to take the land from HIL and it will then buy it with around Rs 50 crore. “We are in the process of taking the land which is essential for making the ramp of the underpass,” said a senior NHAI official.The total cost of both the projects is around Rs 161.90 crore. The highways authority has divided the work into three phases. Ashok Sharma, project director, NHAI (Gurgaon), said, “The entire project will be carried out in a phased manner so that there is minimum hindrance to traffic movement on the expressway.” Commuters, however, might face traffic jams after the work starts on the ground.Gurgaon traffic police is presently examining the traffic plan given to them by NHAI. “We have received the proposed traffic plan from NHAI for the period of work on the Ambience Mall underpass and the Shankar Chowk elevated U-turn. We’ll examine the plan and revert back at the earliest,” said Himanshu Garg, DCP (traffic), Gurgaon.RK contractor told TOI that the traffic plan has been verbally approved by Gurgaon police. “We will complete the projects in a year,” said an official of RK Contractor, adding, “The underpass will be constructed in the cut and curve method, instead of box pushing (which is the method being used at the Mahipalpur underpass).”The underpass is being developed in the public-private partnership (PPP) model with NHAI funding 50% of the project while Ambience Private Limited and DLF will fund the other 50%. For the elevated U-turn, NHAI will contribute 75% of the cost and MCG the remaining 25%.
