Final-year student at MDI jumps to death from hostel

GURUGRAM: A student of Management Development Institute (MDI) jumped to his death from the seventh-floor balcony of his college hostel on Saturday, police said. A final-year student of the postgraduate management programme, he was allegedly suffering from depression.Junaid Taj, a resident of Vasant Vihar in Delhi, joined MDI in 2017 for the three-year programme and was living in the hostel. “He jumped to his death around 7am and was found in a pool of blood by security guards of the college,” said inspector Vinod, the SHO of Sector 18 police station.The college management informed police about the suicide. Junaid’s body was sent to the mortuary. We have recorded the statements of his friends and parents,” said the SHO, adding that it seemed to be a case of suicide and they do not suspect any foul play.

Last year, he completed his internship at a leading watch company and was set for a promising future, according to sources.His last upload on social media was on December 13 when he changed his profile picture. The picture shows him smiling and one of his friends commented on it, saying “future consultant”.According to police, Junaid was suffering from depression for quite some time but the reason for the same is still not clear. “He jumped to his death around 7am and was found in a pool of blood by security guards of the college,” said inspector Vinod, the SHO of Sector 18 police station.The college management informed police about the suicide. Junaid’s body was sent to the mortuary. “The family was informed and the body was handed over to them after a post-mortem,” said the SHO, adding that Junaid’s mother had informed the cops about his depression.The family has not pressed for further investigation into the matter. Junaid’s mother, in a statement to police, said she was informed about her son’s suicide by his college friends.She said her son had sent messages on phone and Facebook to some of his friends about his depression. “No suicide note was found. We have recorded the statements of his friends and parents,” said the SHO, adding that it seemed to be a case of suicide and they do not suspect any foul play.
