Rain lashes Gurugram, triggers waterlogging in major e-way junctions

While the city witnessed moderate rainfall, hailstorm was reported in places like Pataudi, Sohna and Sector 10.Surjit Kumar, a resident of Sector 10, said, “I was out to pick up my daughter from her tuition class when the hailstorm hit our area. It was so strong that I had to stop my car for a few minutes and take cover in a shelter. I’ve never seen this kind of hailstorm here.”Like other cities in the NCR, Gurugram has also been witnessing scattered rainfall for two-three days. On Thursday morning, slight increase in rain intensity was observed over Gurugram, Delhi, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad.According to the Met department, the rainfall and sudden change in the wind direction has led to a drop in the minimum temperature by around 3°C on Thursday evening as compared to morning. While the city’s minimum temperature was recorded at 15.1°C, it came down to 12.3°C by evening.The rainfall, however, led to waterlogging in many areas, including Hero Honda Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, MG Road, Badshapur and Shankar Chowk, in the evening. “Heavy rain has triggered waterlogging in many areas, leading to traffic congestion. However, we managed to avert snarls,” said a traffic police officer. A Met department official said the city would witness shallow to moderate fog in the morning. “The sky will remain clear thereafter. The maximum and minimum temperatures would hover between 19°C and 10°C on Friday but no rain is expected,” he said.The average maximum and minimum temperature, on Thursday, was recorded at 19°C and 14.5°C, respectively.
