Slush pits, ravines and tasks challenge drivers at this off-road event in Gurgaon

Mamta Chander, an experienced off-roader from Gurgaon, said, “It was a tough track, particularly when we had to drive through a ditch in reverse. And that’s exactly what the participants of the off-roading event at the Off Road Adventure Zone in Gurgaon had to triumph. There were bikers, 4x4 drivers, and even those with huge mean machines raring to get on the track. The event, billed as the biggest of its kind in the city, saw a huge turnout with participants coming from across north India. But it was great fun too, because only when the track is tough that you get to test yourself.”The off-roading competition had participants driving through ponds and ditches and up steep mounds

Navigating the traffic in Gurgaon’s rush hour can be a crazy task, but one would assume that battling steep hills, trenches, and water pits while piloting big 4x4 machines in the wilderness is slightly tougher. And that’s exactly what the participants of the off-roading event at the Off Road Adventure Zone in Gurgaon had to triumph. The event, billed as the biggest of its kind in the city, saw a huge turnout with participants coming from across north India. There were bikers, 4x4 drivers, and even those with huge mean machines raring to get on the track. But this time, the organisers scaled the competition up by preparing four tough stages of off-roading that tested the drivers’ speed, skill and quick thinking, with drivers having to not just navigate the tough course but also having to perform tasks along the way. This was the first time organisers had added tasks like ringing a bell on a steep mound while driving and planting (and then removing) flags while driving through a water pond. Finishing these tasks made the ride all the more challenging for the competitors. Rahul Singh, a Gurgaon-based off-roader, said, “This was new because it wasn’t just about being fast. There were parts where you had to drive up a mound and ring a bell. One had to not only memorise the track but also keep in mind these little tasks and they had to be done in the right order.”The track’s increased difficulty resulted in several cars getting stuck, stalled and some even had to be towed back to the track by a recovery vehicle. Mamta Chander, an experienced off-roader from Gurgaon, said, “It was a tough track, particularly when we had to drive through a ditch in reverse. My car got stuck there for a while, which was challenging. But it was great fun too, because only when the track is tough that you get to test yourself.”The off-roading competition had participants driving through ponds and ditches and up steep mounds
