Can’t look after son, want to study: Rape survivor to CWC

GURUGRAM: A 16-year-old rape survivor on Monday walked in to the Child Welfare Committee ( CWC ) office in the city, holding a court order, urging it to take care of her one-year-old child. GURUGRAM: A 16-year-old rape survivor on Monday walked in to the Child Welfare Committee ( CWC ) office in the city, holding a court order, urging it to take care of her one-year-old child. The teen, who was allegedly raped multiple times by her cousin, had delivered a boy last year.The teenager expressed her desire to hand over the child to the committee as she wants to pursue her studies.The CWC, as per the court order, accepted the baby. “On Monday, the girl came to our office with her mother. They had a court order. The child will be sent to an adoption centre,” said CWC chairperson Shakuntala Dhull.Her family came to know of her ordeal in January 2018, when they found out that she was pregnant for five months.At that time, she was in Class X, and was denied abortion owing to health reasons. In March 2018, the girl gave birth to a baby boy.Her cousin was arrested January 2018 for allegedly raping her. He used to blackmail her with the obscene pictures and videos he had taken, police said.In January 2019, she moved the court, seeking permission to hand over her child for adoption as she wanted to continue her studies.“Now, I want to move on from the darkest phase of my life. I had to discontinue my Class X studies owing to physical and mental trauma but want to resume it now,” she told the CWC and the court.
