3 criminals held after shootout in Farrukhnagar

GURUGRAM: The crime branch of Gurugram police has arrested three alleged criminals after a brief shootout in Farrukhnagar on Tuesday. Officers of the crime branch said they set up a check post on Jhajjar road after a tip-off and intercepted the trio, who were travelling on a bike which had no registration plates, at Mubarikpur. When police tried to stop them for checking, they opened fire on the cops. In retaliation, the team also fired a few rounds and managed to arrest the accused. Cops recovered two country-made pistols, six bullets and a stolen bike from their possession.The accused were produced before court on Tuesday and sent to four days’ police custody.

The accused has been active in the city over the past year and have admitted their involvement in four cases of robbery and attempt to murder, police said.They had also allegedly opened fire at a sweet shop in Farrukhnagar.The accused have been identified as Rahul, Salim and Danish, all residents of Meerut in UP. Officers of the crime branch said they set up a check post on Jhajjar road after a tip-off and intercepted the trio, who were travelling on a bike which had no registration plates, at Mubarikpur. When police tried to stop them for checking, they opened fire on the cops. In retaliation, the team also fired a few rounds and managed to arrest the accused. Cops recovered two country-made pistols, six bullets and a stolen bike from their possession.The accused were produced before court on Tuesday and sent to four days’ police custody. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had been operating in the city for one and a half years now and opened fire at Radhe Sweets in Farrukhnagar twice last year to extort money from the owner.On Tuesday, the crime branch also arrested a man in Pataudi who allegedly robbed people after offering to sell them four-wheelers at attractive prices through OLX ads. A pistol and stolen mobile phone have also been recovered from his possession. The accused — Salim, a resident of Mewat — was produced before a local court and sent to two days’ police custody.He was arrested in connection with a case registered at Bilaspur police station on September 5 last year. Salim told cops that he, along with three accomplices, used to put up ads on OLX to sell cars at attractive prices and rob prospective buyers when they came to see the car.
