Fire in slum cluster leaves 500 homeless

New Delhi: A day after 17 people died in a fire at a hotel in Karol Bagh, another massive inferno at a slum cluster in Paschim Puri rendered around 500 people homeless on Wednesday.The fire that started very early in the morning at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Camp was sparked by a short-circuit of a hooked wire, which led to cylinder blasts.Even though there were no casualties, around 250 shanties were gutted.About 200 firemen and 28 fire engines battled the blaze for two hours before controlling it.Police said the fire started around 1.30am and spread rapidly through the shacks made of plywood and plastic.
