Rain, hailstorm hit Gurugram, flights diverted at IGI

GURUGRAM: Rain and a hailstorm hit the city on Thursday morning, bringing down the minimum temperature to 10°C. On Friday, the maximum and minimum temperature is expected to hover between 23 and 14°C. “Rainfall may bring down the minimum temperature by one or two notches. The air quality is expected to improve and the minimum temperature is likely to go down further by one or two notches in next 3-4 days. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 309 on Thursday.

GURUGRAM: Rain and a hailstorm hit the city on Thursday morning, bringing down the minimum temperature to 10°C. The Met department had forecast hailstorm for Thursday.Six flights were diverted and many others delayed due to early morning showers and hailstorm in some parts of Delhi-NCR on Friday.“Western disturbance along with moist eastern winds has hit the north western plains. This led to rain and hailstorm at a few places,” said a Met official. He also said the hailstorm was not very strong as witnessed in the region last Thursday.According to the Met department, rain is expected on Friday also as the western disturbance will stay for next 24 hours. “Rainfall may bring down the minimum temperature by one or two notches. However, the temperature is expected to rise on Saturday,” said the official.The air quality, however, remained in the ‘very poor’ level on Thursday. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 309 on Thursday. It was 345 (very poor) on Wednesday. Before Wednesday, the AQI was in the ‘poor’ category for six days.The neighbouring cities — Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad — also witnessed ‘very poor’ level of air quality. The AQI was 340 in Delhi, 348 in Ghaziabad, 334 in Faridabad, 355 in Greater Noida and 331 in Noida. Manesar, on the other hand, recorded AQI at 275 (poor). The air quality is expected to improve and the minimum temperature is likely to go down further by one or two notches in next 3-4 days. “There is a possibility of showers on Friday which may help in dispersal of particulate matters. After Friday, the situation will anyway improve,” said the official.On Thursday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 21.9°C and 14°C. On Friday, the maximum and minimum temperature is expected to hover between 23 and 14°C.
